Sustainable tourism

My interest in sustainable tourism started in 1997, when I wrote my thesis about sustainable tourism on Mykines Island.

I was on Mykines island in January 97 and made interviews with all the local inhabitants and asked them about their attitude towards tourists and their wishes and ideas to create local income from tourism.

I also interviewed the Board of Agriculture and  an ornithologist asking about the fysical sustainability of the island, the carrying capacity of the birdlife and nature on the island.

Physical, social/cultural and economical sustainability is the core of all my councelling within tourism product development.

In recent years I took part in NorReg2021 a nordic project on regenerative tourism, representing the Faroe Islands in the project. Currently I am part of NORA FareGreen project. I also took parti in Closed for Maintenance Faroe Islands in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2025.

I have also had workshops for small faroese tourism companies, with themes like price setting, sustainable tourism, storytelling and marketing for Visit Faroe Islands.
